About Monica
Monica Escobedo began her career in property management in 1996 when she started leasing apartments after needing an apartment and being introduced to the role. She has progressed through nearly every operations position, from leasing consultant and leasing manager to property manager, regional manager, asset manager, and marketing manager, and now oversees the management company while working closely with the investment and acquisition team and reporting directly to the ownership group. Her responsibilities include operations and management, asset management, contract management, and human capital, as well as reviewing underwriting for future acquisitions. She received her IREM certification in approximately 2010 and has only a high school education, with her expertise derived from experience. Monica finds gratification in the people component of her work, seeing colleagues advance in their careers, and takes pride in her organization's embrace of technology that enabled remote success during the pandemic. Her company is affiliated with NMHC, the National Apartment Association, and state associations.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
For a leasing consultant, understand the role, there is some sales component to it, but if you work hard and you know that it's something that you enjoy at that moment, and closing deals, like stick with it. Be around people that you want to work with. Have self-accountability to how you're gonna show up every day and what you're gonna do for yourself to be successful in the role.
