Her Story
About Monica
Monica Miller owns and operates StillIstand.com, a professional website based in Baltimore, Maryland, dedicated to inspiring others through community forums where individuals can share experiences and receive support on topics ranging from health issues to personal relationships. She launched the site more than 20 years ago following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis to help people navigate challenges and has since expanded its reach through local fundraisers providing food, clothing, coats, and toys. Prior to this, Miller built a strong foundation in management, rising to upper management roles overseeing multiple restaurants where she earned recognition as a number one lead, and gained customer service experience at Verizon Wireless along with work in the security field. After her diagnosis prompted a career shift, she pursued further education earning credentials in medical coding, medical front office administration, and early childhood education, which she applies to foster positive interactions and understanding of others' needs. Her main area of expertise lies in customer service and being a people person who prioritizes care and kindness, values she credits alongside her faith in God and family support for her achievements, including fast promotions in customer service and leadership honors in restaurant management.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Monica
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say I attribute my success to God. God and God alone. I'm a believer, and that is my strength. My family as well.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I will give advice to a young woman that's trying to enter my industry to maybe start something that you're passionate about. It also comes with hard work, and sometimes you may not feel like it, but you have to do it. And it comes with something, because if you're passionate about it, you won't mind doing it. Because it's passion, hard work, and just a love for what you're doing.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities in having a website that inspires and makes money by allowing people to advertise their businesses. Challenges in figuring out the monetization part and needing networking to grow.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being a people person who cares and is nice. No matter if you're a cashier or the president of a company, all people just want to talk to someone who cares and is nice.
