Her Story

About Monica

She is a multifaceted professional, athlete, educator, and motivational speaker with a diverse career spanning program coordination, professional athletics, higher education, and disability advocacy. Currently serving as Program Coordinator at BACKBONES, she coordinates programs and initiatives supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries. She is also a Professional Athlete with USA Hockey, representing her country at the highest level of the sport, and a Motivational Speaker, inspiring audiences with her resilience and journey. Her academic career includes serving as Professor at Southern Maine Community College for eight years, where she taught courses in on-campus, hybrid, and online settings, wrote and received multiple academic grants, and developed a Freshman Interest Group course called Kitchen Science. She also served as a Master Advisor, educating diverse groups of international, ESL, transfer, and new students in academic advising, freshman orientation, and student services. She served as an Ambassador for Abilities Expo, connecting with nonprofits and vendors in the disability community. She is recognized as a resilient, inspiring, and multifaceted leader who combines athletic excellence, academic expertise, and advocacy to empower others and create positive change.
