Her Story

About Morgan

My career path has been anything but traditional. I started in the culinary world, attending culinary school and working as a chef in various restaurants and hotels. When I was ready for more stability and regular hours, I transitioned into R&D chef work, then moved into the corporate food tech space. I spent about 5 years total at DoorDash, where one of my most meaningful achievements was leading their SNAP and EBT grocery delivery program. As literally a team of one, I grew that program from about 2,000 stores to over 17,000 stores and expanded our grocery chain partnerships from 5 or 6 to over 40. What made this work so impactful was hearing directly from the people we served - single parents, people with disabilities, senior citizens - who told me how grocery delivery was a total game changer for their lives. I also worked with a small Australian startup called Marketplacer, helping businesses integrate marketplaces in a highly technical, client-facing role. My last position was at Airbnb, where I worked on host acquisition and helped launch a new services platform. Throughout my career, my expertise has centered on operations, client onboarding, and implementations. I've been in tech for about 7 years now, and I'm currently taking a career break. For the past 4 years, I've been a digital nomad, traveling full-time without a home base, which has been challenging and fun in equal measure.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to being a lifelong learner and staying curious. I know it sounds cliche, but truly, curiosity has been super important and helped me grow and get to the point where I am today. I'm very curious by nature, so I'm always asking questions and being willing to suck at things until I get better at them. I've taken this mindset of being open to learning and understanding that I need to be willing to take risks. So many of the opportunities I've had were things I didn't know how to do until I thought to myself, why not give it a try? Like, the worst I can do is fail. For example, I'd never been a program manager before, but I really thought that the SNAP program at DoorDash was something I really believed in and it aligned with some of my career goals. So I thought, okay, well, why not give it a try? And if it's awful, then I just pivot to something else. Without trying, I don't think I ever would have gotten to where I am. That willingness to experiment and learn has been what's led me down this path and helped me decide what I like and what I don't like.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice I would give to anyone is that lifelong learning is important. Curiosity is important. And don't sell yourself short. Know your strengths and be open to opportunities that present themselves, even if they're not exactly what you were looking for. There's no telling where saying yes to an opportunity can take you. Be open to opportunities even if they may not seem like exactly what you were looking for initially.
