Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my willingness to step into challenging situations, make decisions even when conditions aren’t perfect, and learn quickly through action. Embracing failure as part of the growth process, asking for help when needed, and refusing to be intimidated by titles or technical gaps have been critical to my development. My persistence, humility, and commitment to continuous learning, coupled with the leadership mindset I cultivated in the military—where decisive action, accountability, and service to others are essential—have been foundational to my success. I also credit my mentors and the trailblazing women who came before me for helping me navigate male-dominated environments with confidence. My expertise is grounded in military leadership, decision-making under pressure, strategic communication, and technical problem-solving, which I now apply to operational planning, smart infrastructure innovation, and cross-functional coordination in the utility sector.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received came from commanders and senior officers who modeled decisiveness, integrity, and compassion. Their guidance shaped my ability to lead teams, manage crises, and make sound decisions under pressure. I also learned from the women who paved the way before me, demonstrating that female leadership is both necessary and possible, even in fields where we have historically been underrepresented.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to lead boldly and make decisions with confidence. It’s important not to allow fear of criticism to paralyze you—someone will always have an opinion about your approach, tone, or leadership style. Professionalism, consistency, and action are what ultimately earn respect. I believe that a less-than-perfect decision is far better than indecision, especially when others depend on you.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I see is bridging the gap between traditional utility operations and rapidly evolving AI-driven solutions. Many organizations have been operating the same way for decades, so adoption requires building trust, providing education, and clearly demonstrating results. At the same time, the opportunity is tremendous—smart grid technology has the potential to transform entire regions by reducing failures, improving energy reliability, and lowering operational costs.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I am driven by service, integrity, decisiveness, accountability, and representation. My military background instilled in me the importance of acting for the good of the team, standing firm in my principles, and doing the right thing even when it’s difficult. I also value being a visible example of female leadership in spaces where women have historically lacked representation. Personally, I balance my professional intensity with creativity, movement, and mindfulness—I enjoy painting, practicing yoga, maintaining fitness through CrossFit, and reading extensively. These outlets help me stay grounded, energized, and focused.
