Her Story

About Morgan

Morgan Furnari serves as an advocate for arts and culture at a national nonprofit organization, where she has worked for the past seven years. In this role, she helps educate members of Congress on developments in the arts and culture field nationwide and supports legislation that funds arts education, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and state arts agencies that provide grants to artists and organizations. Morgan grew up dancing in Miami, Florida, an experience that motivated her academic success and ultimately led her to discover arts advocacy as a career while attending George Washington University. There she majored in dance and organizational sciences with a minor in psychology. She remains active as a choreographer in the Miami area, a pursuit she has maintained for twelve to fifteen years. Morgan takes particular pride in her organization's nonpartisan get-out-the-vote campaigns, which address varying state voting laws and the broader lack of civic education in the country.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Ask the questions to talk to everybody. I think we can sometimes get so narrow-minded when we have dreams, right? We have okay, I need to do this, this, and then this, and this, and you look online, it's like, okay, that's the path I'm going to follow, but ultimately, you just don't know what's going to happen in life, and you should talk to everybody you possibly can, and hear about all the different opportunities that life has to offer you, because I would have never known this was even an option when I was in school, or even early college. I didn't even notice for the career path. Yeah. So, yeah, like. It's just it's so crazy, so just talk to everybody that you can, and learn what's out there, because you might be missing something that you were meant to do.
