Her Interview

Ten minutes with Morgan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the support I have had around me. My family who came beside me when I needed help with my kids as a single mother to be away for trainings, conferences, and now interregional travel, my colleagues and managers who saw potential in me and trusted me with the opportunities to grow and learn, and a company that was willing to invest and develop me as an employee.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

"Change is uncomfortable, but if you are comfortable you are not growing." I took this to heart in every aspect, both in my personal life and my professional life. It is easy to become complacent with what you are comfortable with, but that also means missed opportunities. Change can be daunting, especially when it means added responsibility, but growth happens from adapting and overcoming. There is no such thing as failure, everything is a chance to obtain knowledge.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

YOU ARE CAPABLE! Women bring something amazing to the construction industry. In a male dominated industry the hard truth is that you will have to work twice as hard to gain the respect of some, but once you do you can be seen as an asset and a resource to them.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges we are facing right now is changing mindsets. With the company's recent expansion we are introducing new processes to new divisions. This can be a challenge because it means changing processes people have been doing for years the same way. Change is uncomfortable for most so we are working hard to support these changes with resources and staying connected to the people going through them.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Always perform to the best of your ability, stay accountable for yourself and others, stay honest even when it's difficult, and treat others with kindness and respect.
