Her Story
About Morgan
Morgan Watts is a medical device professional and Commercial Training Manager for Robotics at Smith+Nephew, where she leads training initiatives for the company’s robotics platform across the United States. With six and a half years of experience in the medical device industry, Morgan has developed expertise in surgical robotics, orthopaedic trauma and reconstruction, clinical education, and surgeon support. In her current role, she equips internal sales representatives with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently support surgeons and healthcare teams in advancing robotic surgical technology.
Morgan began her career after earning her biology degree, initially working at Phoenix CyberKnife, a physician-owned radiation oncology center, where she gained valuable experience in healthcare and patient-focused technology. She later volunteered with Smith+Nephew to support surgeon trainings, demonstrations, and cadaveric labs, an opportunity that helped launch her career in medical device sales. She went on to serve as a field representative selling trauma and reconstructive products before transitioning into a clinical specialist role focused on robotics, where she managed a multi-state territory, launched new accounts, and partnered with surgeons to implement innovative technology. Her dedication and performance led to her promotion to Commercial Training Manager for Robotics, Orthopaedics, Americas.
Morgan attributes her success to persistence, continuous learning, and the importance of building genuine relationships. She believes that opportunities are often created by showing up, volunteering, and consistently investing in personal and professional growth. In an evolving field where women remain underrepresented in robotics, Morgan is passionate about encouraging others to pursue opportunities, seek mentorship, and believe in their ability to make an impact. Guided by values of curiosity, gratitude, compassion, and continuous improvement, she is committed to helping advance healthcare innovation while supporting the people who bring that innovation to life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Morgan
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to persistence, hard work, and believing in myself. I’ve learned the value of continuing to “chip away,” volunteering for opportunities, and putting myself in situations where I can grow. Building authentic relationships and earning trust have also been key to creating meaningful opportunities.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most impactful pieces of advice came from my husband: “This is what you asked for.” That reminder helps me reframe difficult moments as part of the path I intentionally chose. I also received valuable advice from a manager who encouraged me to recognize and celebrate my own accomplishments instead of moving too quickly to the next challenge.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be proactive and persistent. Show up, volunteer, and continue chipping away at opportunities. Seek out mentors, learn from the experiences of others, and focus on building strong relationships. Those connections can create opportunities, especially in fields like robotics that have traditionally been male-dominated.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Robotics continues to be a field where women are underrepresented, which creates an important opportunity to increase inclusion and bring more diverse perspectives into the industry. Another major challenge and opportunity is scaling training nationally so internal teams feel confident supporting surgeons in the operating room.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are relationships, genuine care for people, curiosity, continuous improvement, and gratitude. I believe in learning every day, appreciating small wins, and building connections based on trust and respect.
