She currently works at Capital One, helping customers open accounts and directing them to beneficial solutions at other institutions when needed. Morgan attributes her success to a drive to be better than the circumstances of her family and to provide for loved ones, and she values integrity, honesty, and transparency in her work. Her advice to young women entering the industry is to never take no as the final answer.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Morgan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I always sat there and sacrificed everything I had to do for everyone else, whether it was my grandmother, my mother, I raised my little sister. So it's one of those, I'll always sit there and do it because I just want to be better than what my mother was, what my father is, what my grandmother, what she had. Just always want to sit there and just keep pushing myself through, so that way I don't end up in the same, you know, slopes that they went through.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never judge a book by their cover. Because I've had, like, it was just one manager that I had a long, long time ago... people would be like, oh, the person looks trashy, so we're not gonna work with them, and you had me. I'll take them. I would take anyone. I don't care if you came in with holes in your shoes or anything... you never know what someone has underneath that, though, or what baggage they're carrying.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never take no as the final answer.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I've dealt with sexism. I've got overlooked from promotions just due to my gender. That was at Verizon. I went through the whole ordeal with COVID-19... your company shuts down completely... they downsized the company, basically overnight... I've just been to, like, playing that yo-yo game... Sexism, or whether it's dealing with just the economy, or the environments, or what's going on, those have been, like, the biggest, impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Having integrity. Being honest with someone and being transparent. Especially being in sales, too. I feel like those are, like, values that you should have whenever you're working sales. It's not sugarcoating. I'm sitting there just giving them that advice before they sit there saying, well, why did you make me sit here all this time?
