Her Interview
Ten minutes with My
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the values and mindset my parents instilled in me from an early age. They taught me that once you set a meaningful goal, the path to achieving it may not always be clear or easy, but perseverance and determination will carry you forward. Rather than focusing on obstacles, they encouraged me to seek out the support, knowledge, and resources needed to overcome challenges along the way. That perspective has shaped both my personal and professional journey, reminding me that success is not about having all the answers from the start, but about remaining committed to the goal, adapting when necessary, and continuously learning throughout the process.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Much of my professional growth has been shaped by the guidance of exceptional mentors. My high school counselor and former supervisor, Dr. Kortney Tambara, had a profound influence on my career by helping me understand how to build a meaningful career in education and student support. She not only provided practical guidance but also exemplified the importance of investing deeply in others' success through mentorship, encouragement, and leadership. Equally impactful was my graduate experience at California State University, Long Beach, where I was surrounded by dedicated counseling professionals who encouraged involvement in conferences, professional associations, and lifelong learning. The greatest career advice I have received is that learning should never stop. It is not enough to simply attend workshops or gain knowledge; true growth comes from applying what you learn in practice. That philosophy has enabled me to continuously evolve as an educator and consultant while providing the highest level of support to the students and families I serve.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the education or college consulting field is to never be afraid to reach out, ask questions, and learn from the experiences of others. Building meaningful connections with professionals, whether through LinkedIn, networking events, or informational conversations, can provide valuable guidance and open doors to new opportunities. Education is a profession rooted in helping others succeed, and most educators and consultants are genuinely willing to share their knowledge and support those who are just beginning their careers. By seeking advice from multiple mentors, remaining curious, and being open to different perspectives, you can gain practical insights, develop confidence, and create your own path toward success with a strong network of people invested in your growth.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in my field is the ability to create meaningful, lasting impact by helping individuals and organizations achieve their goals despite an ever-changing landscape. At the same time, one of the biggest challenges is navigating uncertainty while maintaining focus and momentum. Success requires adaptability, strategic planning, and a willingness to embrace change rather than fear it. I believe that setting clear goals, trusting the process, and remaining committed to continuous growth are essential for overcoming obstacles. By approaching challenges with resilience, seeking the right resources and support, and staying focused on long-term outcomes, professionals can transform uncertainty into opportunity and create meaningful, sustainable success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my professional and personal life are empathy, altruism, and optimism. Empathy allows me to genuinely understand the experiences and challenges of others, which is at the heart of my passion for helping people grow and succeed. I believe that knowledge is most valuable when it is shared, and I find great fulfillment in supporting others without expecting anything in return. This sense of service is complemented by an optimistic outlook that helps me approach challenges with confidence and resilience. While I recognize that success is rarely easy, I believe that with perseverance, collaboration, and a positive mindset, obstacles can become opportunities for growth and meaningful impact.
