About Myia
Myia Williams serves as Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the Umoja Community Education Foundation in Sacramento, California, where she develops frameworks and professional development programs focused on African-centered education and culturally responsive teaching. She began her career 15 years ago after completing her undergraduate studies, progressing from tutoring and substitute teaching to her first classroom at the Spectrum Center at Morningside High School in an adult transition program for special education students ages 18 to 21. Williams later worked as a regional coordinator for Umoja serving Orange County and San Diego before her promotion, and she has been an adjunct instructor at California State University Long Beach since 2022 teaching Introduction to Racial and Ethnic Studies in the United States. She earned her Master's of Arts in Education in 2016 and belongs to the Golden Key Society and the National Council for Black Studies. Her work draws on K-12 experience, faculty training across disciplines, and a commitment to elevating student voices to support academic success.
