About Mylee
Mylee Khristoforov is a writer, educator, and naturalist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, whose work brings together creativity, research, education, and sustainability. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis on writing and global literatures, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from San Diego State University, and a Master of Science in Management and Organization with a focus on managing for sustainability from the University of Colorado Denver. She has also completed graduate-level study in sustainability and earned certificates in music therapy and sound healing and human-centered design. Her literary work has appeared in publications including The Lowell Review, Greyrock Review, and Another Chicago Magazine, as well as in an anthology exploring experiences of grief.
Before transitioning to full-time writing, Mylee spent approximately 20 years teaching interdisciplinary subjects, with an emphasis on research, writing, critical thinking, and helping students develop confidence in their own voices. Her teaching experience includes work with Metropolitan State University of Denver, Front Range Community College, and the State of Washington’s Strategies for Success program. She also brings a background in management and operations from REI, where she worked in leadership, training, customer service, and organizational development. Across these roles, Mylee has focused on creating meaningful learning experiences, developing talent, encouraging collaboration, and helping people recognize and apply their strengths.
Today, Mylee is dedicating herself to writing and recently completed a memoir examining her experience with alopecia and her journey toward a more liberated sense of selfhood. Her interests in nature, sustainability, and the human experience continue to inform her creative work and broader perspective. Outside of writing, she contributes her time to community and environmental efforts, including Veggie Boss, Albuquerque’s open space program, and the Make Merry project. She also sings with the New Mexico Women’s Chorus and the New Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus. Through writing, teaching, volunteering, and creative expression, Mylee continues to explore the connections between people, place, identity, and purpose.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do it. Find a way that works for you and make it your own. You have something to say, insights worth sharing, and a story that no one else can tell. It does not have to be perfect. Start where you are, even if you can only give it ten minutes a day. Those small moments can become something meaningful.
