Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nadine

01What do you attribute your success to?

I am passionate about my work, which I believe is essential to long-term success. I genuinely enjoy recruiting and building meaningful connections with people, and that enthusiasm continues to drive my commitment to the industry. Over the years, I have found that success is rooted in perseverance, dedication, and a strong work ethic, combined with a continuous focus on learning and staying engaged with evolving trends in both the market and IT recruiting.

I actively challenge myself by pursuing ongoing professional development. My organization provides a wide range of training resources for IT recruiters and sales professionals, which I have taken full advantage of. I have participated in seminars led by industry experts such as Bob Bruno, as well as personal development programs by Tony Robbins, whose teachings emphasize mindfulness, inspiration, and achieving both personal and professional success. In addition, I have recently completed a 3-month Executive Leadership program at Mitchell Martin Inc. and undertook a LinkedIn training focused on artificial intelligence.

Continuous learning is central to my approach. I make it a priority to stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure I remain both relevant and engaged. By consistently expanding my skill set and embracing new challenges, I have been able to sustain a high level of performance and growth throughout my 27-year career. In a field as dynamic as technology, there is truly never a dull moment, and that constant evolution has been a key factor in my continued success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the most valuable pieces of career advice I’ve received is to continually challenge yourself to grow and learn, and never give up. I was told early on that success doesn’t happen by chance—it’s built through perseverance, determination, and a strong work ethic over time. Just as important, they emphasized the power of maintaining a positive mindset, especially when facing setbacks or uncertainty.

That guidance has stayed with me throughout my career. It reinforced the importance of staying committed to long-term goals, remaining adaptable in a constantly evolving environment, and approaching challenges with confidence and resilience. Ultimately, it’s this combination of discipline, continuous learning, and optimism that drives lasting success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

For women entering the IT recruiting industry, my advice centers on patience, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous learning. This is a field where success is built over time, and those who are willing to stay the course and remain curious will ultimately thrive.

One of the most important things you can do early in your career is learn from those around you. Seek guidance from experienced colleagues, mentors, and leaders, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. There is no such thing as a “wrong” question. Every conversation is an opportunity to deepen your understanding and refine your approach. The most successful professionals are those who remain open, engaged, and willing to absorb knowledge at every stage of their journey.

Equally valuable is learning directly from candidates. In many ways, they are your greatest resource. Taking the time to truly listen, ask thoughtful questions, and understand their technical expertise will not only strengthen your recruiting skills but also help you build credibility and trust. Over time, these conversations will sharpen your ability to assess talent and navigate the complexities of the technology landscape.

It is also important to recognize that this industry comes with its challenges. Recruiting can be cyclical and influenced by broader economic shifts. Throughout my career, I have navigated significant market fluctuations, including the aftermath of September 11th, 2001, and the 2008 financial crisis. These experiences reinforced the importance of resilience and adaptability. There will be highs and lows, but maintaining focus and determination will carry you through.

Ultimately, passion is what sustains long-term success. If you genuinely enjoy what you do, stay committed to your growth, and refuse to give up, you will find your place in this industry. Perseverance, curiosity, and a strong work ethic are the qualities that will set you apart and they will open the door to lasting success.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the primary challenges in this field is navigating market volatility and the inherent fluctuations in recruiting, which can rapidly impact hiring demand. At the same time, the accelerated pace of technological innovation particularly in areas such as AI, data science, and machine learning presents a significant opportunity. Success in this environment requires a strong commitment to continuous learning in order to remain relevant and effectively meet evolving talent needs.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I believe in the importance of integrity, honesty, and staying true to one’s word. Maintaining strong moral values and treating others with respect are fundamental principles that guide both personal and professional success. I firmly believe that when you do good and serve others with sincerity, that positivity is returned. What you put out into the world ultimately comes back to you.

Equally important are hard work and determination. Consistently doing the right thing, even when it is challenging, builds character and credibility over time. I also strive to maintain a positive mindset, focus on the bigger picture, and contribute as a responsible and ethical member of both my community and workplace.

Finally, accountability is essential. Taking ownership of your actions, rather than placing blame on others, demonstrates maturity and leadership. Stepping back, reflecting, and holding yourself accountable is key to growth and long-term success.
