Her Story
About Nakia
I've been in my field for over 25 years and in my current role for 12 years as executive assistant to the CEO at a homeless shelter. I handle scheduling, planning trips, community constituents, working with the police department, in-kind donations, and helping people navigate solutions with an open-door policy. Previously I did logistics and inventory at a chemical company and customer service including returns, shipping, and ordering for a shoe distributor in Hayward. I have some college classes in organizational behavior and business but no full degree, and my expertise comes from experience and passion. I'm involved in the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce, Faith and Fellowship Network in East Palo Alto, and have been Director of Branding for Youth Utilizing Power and Praise for over 10 years.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from confidence in myself and believing that I can do it, in spite of everything. Everything I do is led by God, and having confidence that this is who God created me to be. Exposure by putting myself out there in different events and opportunities has also contributed, moving from Oakland to Palo Alto with purpose.
