Her Story

About Nakita

Nakita Harris is a Consultant & Luxury Travel Advisor and the founder of Wonders of the World Luxury Travel, a business she established in May 2020 that blends her professional expertise with her lifelong passion for travel, cultural exploration, and food. Her career began in the U.S. Army, where she served on active duty from September 1998 through February 2002, later returning as a federal intern and operations research systems analyst and mathematician for the Department of the Army. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Philander Smith College, is a Certified ORSA, and carries a DAWIA certification in program management and cost analysis, alongside graduate coursework completed toward advanced degrees in mathematical science, data science, and statistics. Beyond her travel advisory work, Harris has built a parallel consulting practice supporting veterans and federal employees, drawing on both her military background and her own experience navigating workplace discrimination related to disability. She assists individuals with securing reasonable accommodations for telework and remote work, developing strategy plans for EEO complaints, and pursuing VA disability and medical retirement claims. This dual focus, on luxury travel and on advocacy for those facing systemic barriers, reflects a career built around problem-solving, evidence-based decision-making, and a deep commitment to helping others move forward with confidence. A longtime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for more than twenty years and an active participant in the ORSA community, Harris also devotes her time to causes including breast cancer awareness, Disabled American Veterans, and math tutoring for children, with plans to launch her own nonprofit organization. Based in Converse, Texas, she operates her national travel advisory business through nakitaharris.inteletravel.com, guided above all by the value of integrity, which she describes as the principle she lives by in both her professional and personal life.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nakita

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the many adversities I've faced and overcome, from childhood through fairly recently in my life. I see myself as a true change agent, someone who wants to see things get better, and I've learned from every influence along the way, both the positive ones and the negative ones. That ability to take lessons from every experience is really what has driven my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

While I was earning my bachelor's degree, my math professor told me that I was going to be great in my career, but that one thing could hold me back: waiting until I was 100% certain before speaking up. He taught me to never turn myself down and to let others be the ones to say no, not me.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to bet on themselves and do their best to push past their fears. For me personally, one of my biggest struggles has been simply engaging in conversation with people, but I've learned that closed mouths don't get fed. I've come to realize I have a lot of valuable information to offer others, and I encourage other women to recognize that same value in themselves.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face in my travel business is that many people are hesitant to work with a travel advisor because of trust issues; there have been cases where clients sent money to an advisor who disappeared with the funds or over-promised and under-delivered. The industry also feels oversaturated, and the current political climate has made some people afraid to travel outside of the U.S.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is the main value I live by, in both my work and my personal life.
