Her Story
About Nalo
I've been in the museum library field for about 3 years, encompassing education where I spent nearly two decades at Springfield Public School District 186 and Chicago Public Schools. After nearly 2 decades in education , I served as executive director of the Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum. I remained there for one and decided my faith that it was time to do something else. I was blessed in starting my current role as Legislative and Governmental Affairs Director at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. I focus on building bipartisan relationships at the State Capitol, building and developing future leaders, and supporting educational programs.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself. The sky's the limit. Do it afraid and be authentic. If you don't believe in yourself, it's hard for anyone else to do so. Don't minimize the opportunity. It's hard to get into this field, so start wherever you can, build your resume and momentum, and the next door will open.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities is being a lifelong learner. Even with 20 years working with governmental officials, this capacity is new, so I delve in and learn more. Being vulnerable and knowing it's okay that I'm not well-versed in certain things, still learning, and still being confident while not being confident.
