Her Story

About Nancy

I fell into the insurance industry like many people do, and I've been in this field for 31 years now. Before insurance, I worked for a family business in CPA and some law. Today, I work across the country with regulators, providing education and helping them connect with resources. I help them get better access and better tools to analyze the data that they already have. One of my proudest accomplishments was the modernization efforts I did at the Texas Department of Insurance around 2018-2019. We overhauled the agent adjuster licensing, reducing wait times from 6 weeks to 1 day to get a license, and we changed the call center hold times from probably over an hour at the start to literally less than 2 minutes. What I love most about my job is ultimately helping people get the most out of what they need, being able to help support them and make them able to get better access to things, and just being a resource. I really enjoy the relationships.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's keeping the goal in mind and just working towards it. You know, you gotta celebrate the little victories along the way, and eventually, you know, your success pays off. I think that keeping focused on what you're trying to achieve and recognizing the small wins as you go is what has helped me succeed over the years.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think to just be curious. I mean, I think that's where, you know, for me, it's always like trying to find out how things work and being able to get involved in different things. I think just having that curiosity and that quest for always learning helps you. You never know what you're going to use from one part of your career to the next. There are things that I did early on in my career that I've now pulled back up and work, you know, skills that I learned a long time ago that are now putting in place now that I didn't know I would be needing again. So I think you kind of never know where your journey will take you, so always just take each opportunity as a learning experience.
