Her Story
About Nancy
I originally worked in finance in a repossession department, then stayed home with my son and waitressed at a family pizza place. I started in nonprofits at St. Francis Hospital in Senior Services helping elderly with Medicare and insurance issues for 2 years. Then I joined Indiana Primary Health Care Association doing outreach and enrollment for the ACA for about 4-5 years. Now at Jane Pauley Community Health Center for nearly 8 years, I built a department of 28 people providing Medicaid, SNAP, community resources, social services, and operating food pantries in 13 of 17 clinics. I love going out into the community to connect people with services because finances should never be a barrier to healthcare.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Nancy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say God. He's definitely who I turn to for help.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Your lack of education shouldn't define you. Do what makes you happy.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow your heart. There are going to be situations that come up where you know what needs to be done, and just follow what your heart says.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest issues right now are the government Medicaid changes that are being rolled out, making it hard to help the community.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Making a difference in somebody's life is what I've always wanted. Family first, and friends are family. God puts them in your life for a reason.
