Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nancy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, perseverance and determination. I never give up when faced with a challenge. When I encounter a problem, I stay focused, analyze it thoroughly, and continue working it until I find the right solution. My strong work ethic, and willingness to push through obstacles have been the driving forces behind my professional growth.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to stay focused and not allow distractions or unnecessary noise to interfere with my goals. Early in my career, my mentor at IBM Global Services taught me the fundamentals of professional services selling while emphasizing the importance of concentrating on meaningful work rather than getting caught up in workplace drama or excessive networking. This salient advice has remained invaluable throughout my career.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice that I would give to young women entering technology sales is to fully understand how your compensation and commission structure works so you can make informed career decisions. Focus on developing every account, not just the largest opportunities, and invest time in thoroughly researching your client's' strategy and their business needs. Build your success through preparation, knowledge, and consistent execution rather than becoming distracted by office politics. Maintaining professionalism and positive communications as well as focusing on delivering value will create long-term career success.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in technology sales today is that traditional client engagement has become significantly less effective because decision-makers are far less likely be situated at their offices and willing to answer their phones, a trend that accelerated following the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, this shift presents new opportunities to engage prospects through digital channels, educational seminars, webinars, and other value-driven interactions that foster stronger relationships and meaningful conversations.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

"Focus" is one of my most important personal and professional values. I believe staying committed to my goals, avoiding unnecessary distractions, and investing my energy in meaningful work are essential to achieving long-term success. I also value supportive leadership that believes in my abilities, encourages my growth, and creates an environment where I can continue learning, contributing, and delivering results.
