Her Story
About Nanette
I am an author, motivational speaker, and transformational leader with a career spanning over three decades in law enforcement, education, and creative expression. I am the CEO and owner of I Pen Visions LLC, a company I launched in August 2011, through which I have published thirteen novels, one children's book, and registered one screenplay, with a three-volume collection of poetry yet to be published. As a recognized independent author and topic expert, I have dedicated my life to using words and storytelling to inspire, educate, and empower others.
Before transitioning to full-time writing and speaking, I served as a Sergeant at the New Jersey Department of Corrections, where I obtained a Method of Instructions Certification and taught topics including Communication, Leadership and Management, Report Writing, Stress Management, Suicide Prevention, Domestic Violence, and Drug Identification. I also wrote policies, procedures, and lesson plans for the state and served as an Instructor at the New Jersey Department of Corrections Training Academy for over six years, developing a knack for instructing and speaking to large audiences ranging from state officials to staff, parents, and children.
My journey into speaking and youth advocacy began when I spoke to youth within the Boys & Girls Club and coached at the Newark YMCA, where I realized that my purpose to serve could be fulfilled by influencing those caught between the known and unknown perils of society. I participated in open mics filled with poetic prose, spoke at Read-A-Thons, worked with Correction Officers In Neighborhood Schools, and co-created workshops and a six-week program for youth that led to speaking on behalf of the Department of Corrections.
I continue to speak on topics that influence our youth, women, and communities, and I host a podcast where I share insights on personal development, resilience, and transformation.
Across my career in law enforcement, education, and creative expression, my work has been driven by a deep commitment to serving others, amplifying voices, and creating pathways for healing and growth. Whether I am writing a novel, speaking to an audience, or coaching young people, I believe in the power of words and presence to transform lives. I am proud of the journey I have taken and excited to continue using my voice and my pen to make a difference in the world.
