Her Story
About Natacha
Natacha Bonaventure serves as an assistant principal at an elementary school in Fort Bend ISD in Houston, Texas. With a passion for English language arts and literacy intervention, she previously taught students from pre-K through seventh grade and worked as a literacy interventionist supporting struggling readers. Bonaventure attributes her career in education to her belief that every student has the ability to learn and her desire to give back to underserved populations as a minority of African Afro-Latino background. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Florida Atlantic University and a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of St. Thomas . She is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at Abilene Christian University. Bonaventure is a member of HAABSE and TABSE, the Black Alliance for Educators, and serves as co-chair of the Young Leaders Academy, where she helps develop leadership skills in young children. Her research interests include examining the disproportionality of African American and Hispanic boys in special education.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I firmly believe that every student has the ability to learn. I've always felt that as a minority, African Afro-Latino background, our population of students have always been underserved, so going into education was a way for me to give back.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never be afraid to ask for a seat at the table!
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always be receptive to learning new ideas so that you are able to adapt.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The demands on education is immense, but the work is the work!
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
