Her Interview
Ten minutes with Natae'
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think just determination and planning. I've been able to work my way up from retail positions, like, starting out, where I am now, and I think that me just having a plan, really figuring out what it is that I want to do, where I find myself happy and useful, and being able to use my passion and turn it into something I do every day. That's been what's gotten me this far.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I have two pieces of advice that have really shaped my career. One would be to be your authentic self and use your authentic voice. I think that that has gotten me into rooms that I didn't believe that I belonged in at the time. And me learning that kind of helped me see I belonged in every room that I actually was in. So that was really big for me. And then the second one would probably be when one of my mentors explained to me that the individual is the one that's responsible for their career plan. We kind of hold the key to our own future. It's not our manager's job to create that for us, it's their job to support us through it. And that kind of changed my perspective as well, because I felt like I was kind of dependent on other people to kind of create my future for me, and no one can do that but me.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say get in where you fit in, initially. And then from there, figure out where you are the most happy. What gives you that excitement throughout the day. What do you find yourself still thinking about outside of work? And use that to lock in on maybe a specific area within your field.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In my industry, I would say HR is easy to break into without needing a formal education. After a certain point, it does get to a level where you kind of get to a point where you know, okay, I need more education, or I need more experience to kind of get to the senior level roles. And I think that that has been a challenge for me because I had my daughter at a young age, so for me, there wasn't an immediate thought for me to go to college, like, it was more so work, work, work. And that's how I broke into HR, but that is also what has hindered me, so far, because now I'm at a point where for me to go, you know, the heights, reach the heights that I want to reach, I'm going to have to get those certifications, get the education, get as much experience, really, as I can, in HR.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My core values in both my personal and professional life are tenacity, compassion, honesty, and dedication. I believe in seeing things through, even when challenges arise, and staying committed to meaningful outcomes rather than quick fixes. Compassion guides how I show up for others whether it’s colleagues, leaders, or employees navigating change while honesty ensures trust and clarity in every interaction. Above all, dedication keeps me grounded in consistency, follow-through, and doing work that reflects both integrity and purpose.
