Her Story

About Natalia

Natalia Beckenhauer, DNP, RN, is a nurse executive, clinical research leader, published author, entrepreneur, and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Clinical BeautyMed. Based in the Omaha Metropolitan Area, she brings 18 years of experience across nursing, clinical research, regulatory oversight, healthcare operations, patient education, and organizational leadership.

Her career has crossed private, academic, nonprofit, and government healthcare settings, with experience spanning dermatology, primary and preventive care, spine surgery, cardiothoracic and orthopedic research, regulatory affairs, and clinical research administration. Natalia has managed complex Phase I–IV drug and medical-device trials, supported investigator-initiated research, and contributed to peer-reviewed work focused on healthcare quality, safety, clinical outcomes, and high-reliability practices.

At the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Natalia served as a Clinical Research Nurse Manager and later as a Regulatory Affairs–IRB Research Compliance Administrator. In these roles, she led clinical research operations, supported human-subject protections, conducted compliance monitoring, contributed to policy and process development, and collaborated with investigators and interdisciplinary teams across highly regulated research programs. She subsequently served as Director of Clinical Research at Boys Town National Research Hospital, where she provided strategic and operational leadership for clinical trials and research initiatives.

Natalia earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2023, focusing on executive nursing leadership and administration. Her leadership is grounded in scientific integrity, thoughtful collaboration, patient advocacy, and the belief that people should actively participate in decisions affecting their health.

Throughout her career, Natalia noticed a recurring gap: people often wanted to make informed healthcare decisions but didn't always have the time, context, or accessible education to understand what mattered before and after a clinical conversation. That insight led her to found Clinical BeautyMed, a nurse-led educational platform that translates dermatologic research, clinical reasoning, and preventive health principles into practical guidance for women navigating skin health, aesthetic care, and healthy aging.

Through Clinical BeautyMed, Natalia helps women move beyond conflicting advice, exaggerated claims, and isolated information toward greater clarity and more informed conversations with qualified clinicians. Her work reflects a commitment to transparency, evidence-informed education, and a guiding belief that understanding is essential to lifelong health and well-being.

Ten minutes with Natalia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to my family, especially my mother and grandmother. As a teen mom and first-generation college graduate who went on to earn a doctoral degree, I recognize that my accomplishments are rooted in the strength and sacrifices of the women who came before me.

My mother completed high school but did not have the opportunity to attend college. My grandmother, a woman of Hispanic heritage, came to this country with a sixth-grade education and without speaking English. Through perseverance and honest work, including cooking and cleaning, she built a life for her family and refused to allow difficult circumstances to define what was possible.

Their determination taught me to work hard, stay resilient, and never let my starting point determine how far I could go. Their example, along with my family's unwavering support, has given me the courage to pursue opportunities that once seemed beyond reach. They showed me that the sky truly is the limit when perseverance, purpose, and family support are behind you.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is that the sky is the limit, but reaching it requires a willingness to become uncomfortable. If you have a vision, pursue it wholeheartedly and do it to the best of your ability. Growth rarely occurs when we remain in places that feel familiar and safe.

I have learned to step into opportunities even when I don't have every answer, share my ideas with people I trust, and identify the next achievable step. Every meaningful goal requires time, energy, sacrifice, and a willingness to move through a learning curve. No one begins as an expert; everyone has to start somewhere.

Your potential is shaped not only by your abilities, but also by how willing you are to learn, seek guidance, and keep moving forward when the path is unfamiliar.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering nursing is to recognize how expansive the profession truly is. When I first entered nursing, I primarily associated the field with bedside care. I later discovered opportunities in clinical research, regulatory affairs, leadership, education, legal nurse consulting, administration, entrepreneurship, and many other areas.

Your first nursing position does not have to define your entire career. Nursing lets you evolve, explore different specialties, and redirect your path as your interests and goals change. Be curious about roles you have not encountered before, build meaningful professional relationships, and seek mentors who can help you see possibilities beyond your current environment.

Nursing has a place for many different talents, personalities, and passions. Give yourself permission to discover where your particular strengths can make the greatest difference.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of healthcare's greatest challenges is balancing increasingly complex administrative and regulatory demands with the time and human connection needed to provide excellent patient care. Organizational bureaucracy, rigid role limitations, staffing pressures, and unrealistic workloads can leave healthcare professionals feeling that they must accomplish more with fewer resources. Over time, these pressures can contribute to exhaustion and burnout.

Nurses often give deeply of themselves because they understand that patients need more than the completion of timed tasks. They need to feel heard, respected, reassured, and cared for as individuals. That human connection is essential to the healthcare experience, yet it can be difficult to preserve in systems driven by productivity requirements.

This challenge also presents an important opportunity. Healthcare leaders can help redesign processes, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, use technology thoughtfully, and advocate for environments that support both the patient and the professional providing the care.

The future of healthcare depends on creating systems where efficiency and accountability complement compassionate care, not compete with it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are faith, honesty, integrity, trust, advocacy, perseverance, loyalty, transparency, compassion, and empathy. Together, these values shape how I approach my relationships, my leadership, and my responsibility to care for and educate others.

In healthcare, people often come to us during some of the most uncertain and vulnerable moments of their lives. They deserve to be treated with dignity, listened to without judgment, and given information they can trust. Advocacy means helping people find their voices, understand their options, and feel supported as they make decisions affecting their health and well-being.

In both my personal and professional life, I strive to be someone whose actions match her words. I believe that genuine care, transparency, and empathy can help people navigate difficult circumstances, and that integrity is the foundation upon which meaningful relationships and lasting impact are built.
