Her Story

About Natalia

Natalia Chung serves as Director of Content and Communications at PhotoShelter, a digital asset management company based in New York. In this role, she leads content strategy and is responsible for all written materials, including newsletters, social media posts, and blogs, while executing long-term plans and handling urgent requests. She has over 15 years of experience in her field and has built PhotoShelter's content program from limited output to producing about 250 unique pieces per month in her third year there. Her career path began with several years working in Japan, culminating in promotional work for the Tokyo Olympic Games in partnership with Dentsu, where she focused on sustainability efforts such as converting landfills into hydroponic gardens. Upon returning to the U.S., she pivoted to the nonprofit sector, working with Van Jones on Green For All initiatives, including contributions to the Green New Deal and partnership with Kamala Harris's office on the Clean School Bus Act. She then transitioned to freelance writing and B2B SaaS, advancing from senior copywriter to director in three years before joining PhotoShelter. She advises aspiring writers to remain flexible and open to any writing opportunities rather than specializing too narrowly. Among her professional goals is elevating PhotoShelter as a leading digital asset management system by expanding into sectors such as healthcare. She identifies key challenges in the field as keeping pace with demands for content volume and speed while establishing ethical standards for AI use in creation and automation.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Natalia

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If you are entry-level and you want to write for a living, you need to be willing to write anything. Do not pigeonhole yourself into any particular field of writing, because you never know how one job is going to lead to the next job.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

It's a race against the machines. How do we keep up as demand for content, not only for volume, but for speed, becomes more prevalent? And how we handle exactly how we decide to use AI. AI for creation is very different than AI for automation. Organizations need to establish standards for how their employees are using AI, because it's going to become very important as laws start being passed in the coming years of what truly makes AI use ethical or not.
