About Natalie

Natalie Altmire serves as a full-time sales and training manager at DeGroot Logistics, a family-owned third-party logistics company based in Chicago, Illinois. She began her career in the industry in March 2022 at Nolan Transportation Group, where she worked as a sales representative for nearly three years and was promoted to sales manager after two years and seven months. In that role, she handled hiring, training classes of up to 20 people, and performance oversight. Prior to entering logistics, she earned a degree in communications with a minor in history from Louisiana State University and managed a retail clothing store in Baton Rouge for about a year. During her time at Nolan, she added the most new business of all new hires across 13 offices in Q3 2022. She also completed the Above and Beon Leadership Program and received a certificate. She is a member of Women in Logistics and attributes her success to her father's example of teaching and helping others. In her management approach, she focuses on treating all team members equally, celebrating both strong performance and consistent effort to maintain high morale and motivation.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Natalie

01What do you attribute your success to?

My father inspired me to want to teach other people as well. He started his own organization to help kids get into trade schools and has been adamant about teaching and learning, and being the best father possible to his two daughters, myself and my little sister, who also inspires me to perform my best and be a strong positive influence.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

No matter how well someone you're overseeing is performing, treat them all equally. Celebrate successes but also give shout-outs for effort like high call volume or cold emails to keep the entire team motivated.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Use your femininity to your advantage in a cold call sales role. Stand out by being peppy and happy to make a memorable phone call, which helps get more business in a male-dominated industry.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being the only female manager in the company and dealing with emotional responses in meetings with male managers who may not understand the importance of certain issues.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Making everyone feel important, supported, and motivated. Keep energy and morale high without singling anyone out, creating a fun yet productive space.
