Her Story

About Natalie

Natalie Hendrix is a Cosmetic Formulation Consultant and Educator who has been working in the field for about 6 or 7 years. She currently runs a consulting and educational business focused on cosmetic formulation, where she teaches formulation science to other cosmetic chemists, especially those starting out, and consults with brands on formula development. Her main areas of focus include skincare, hair care, oral care, and OTC products. Natalie earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry and a master's in biochem engineering, and she is currently pursuing a PhD in pharmaceutics. She began her career after being hired by a manager at a large brand in Utah, where she moved from Kentucky, and later gained significant experience in oral care at a specialized manufacturer for about 2 years. A couple of years ago, she was elected chair of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists local chapter for Utah and surrounding regions, which she ran for one year, and she remains a member of the SCC. Natalie attributes her success to her first manager and team for providing professional training, as well as the support of her family throughout college and her career.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Natalie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm really grateful for the first manager that hired me into the industry. I don't know if I would have necessarily known about this career path if I hadn't got that job. I'm grateful for her and the whole team at that company for taking a chance and helping me get more professional training. Of course, my family and the support that I've had throughout the years and through college, obviously couldn't have done it without them as well.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never stop learning, especially in the industry that I'm in. There's always something to learn. Science changes over time. It helps you stay curious, and keeps you creative throughout your career.
