What do you attribute your success to?
Natalie shared that she attributes her success to her ability to truly listen to her teams, empower others to lead confidently, and approach challenges with both resilience and humility. She believes her willingness to support people while giving them room to shine is what has allowed her to excel in every leadership role she has held. Natalie described her current position partnering with senior leadership to redesign organizational teams and strengthen the overall structure through a focus on people, process, and product. She works closely with leaders across the company to improve workflow, redesign operational strategies, and ensure the right people are in the right roles to succeed. She expressed that a major part of her work now centers on organizational development and leadership strategy. Natalie shared that her career began almost two decades ago in senior living services, where she advanced from an Executive Director to a Regional Director and eventually to a Director of Operations overseeing assisted living communities across three states. She described how each role strengthened her leadership abilities, broadened her knowledge of compliance requirements, and deepened her commitment to serving seniors and their families. Natalie explained that her main area of expertise is senior living leadership, where she has spent nearly twenty years guiding teams, overseeing compliance, and managing large-scale operations across multiple states. She emphasized her strength in executive decision-making, resident care oversight, and leading organizations through both growth and crisis. Natalie explained that her most notable professional achievement has been developing leaders strong enough to step into her role when she moved up or moved on. She said seeing people she mentored take over her responsibilities is the most rewarding validation of her leadership and is what she is most proud of in her career.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Natalie explained that she has worked with several leaders who shaped her career, especially those who trusted her with higher-level responsibilities early on and encouraged her to step into executive roles. Their confidence in her abilities fueled her drive to mentor others the same way.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Natalie advised young women entering her field to ask questions, get involved, and build relationships within industry associations and professional networks. She emphasized that involvement and visibility open doors that education alone cannot, and she encouraged young women to seek mentorship, raise their hands for opportunities, and not be afraid of stepping into leadership rol
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Natalie talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic was the most challenging period of her career, describing the nonstop changes, daily uncertainty, and emotional weight of leading communities that were among the most heavily impacted. She shared that her team’s resilience, quick adaptability, and unified effort helped them get through it. She also believes the experience created tremendous opportunities to strengthen systems, improve safety practices, and redefine what strong leadership looks like in times of crisis.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Natalie shared that the values guiding her work and life include service, integrity, resilience, and community. She explained that she believes in treating people with respect, leading by example, and always keeping the well-being of residents and staff at the center of every decision. She also values teamwork and believes deeply in supporting and uplifting those around her. Natalie mentioned that outside of her career, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, staying engaged with her local volleyball community, and continuing her education as she works toward her master’s degree in legal studies. She also enjoys reading industry publications and listening to podcasts related to leadership, operations, and healthcare.
