Her path includes estimating positions at MWH Construction and PCL, followed by a promotion from estimator to project manager at DSD and a pre-construction project manager role at Seoul America, all within the renewables space. She credits her success to the support of her family, including her father, mother, and husband. She emphasizes the importance of a higher purpose beyond daily work and values compassionate leadership that prioritizes team well-being.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Navya

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my family - my dad who believed in me before I believed in myself, my mom, and my husband who are my biggest cheerleaders and pillars. They are my core group that has gotten me where I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

From my mentor: know what you are doing well enough to explain it in layman's terms. Be confident in your estimates and processes; if challenged, explain your thought process or have them explain theirs rather than just changing numbers without backing. Do the research to back your confidence so people trust your judgment.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid of being the only woman in the room - it can be our strength because we are noticed quickly. Own your presence and ask questions in a way that earns respect even if you don't know something. Show enthusiasm and knowledge from the industry and you will gain respect quickly.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include tariffs and politics making it harder and more expensive to build renewable projects in the US compared to other countries, impacting smaller companies and ultimately consumers. Opportunity: starting on the field to understand full construction processes including labor, schedules, and budgeting leads to a strong lifelong career.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Everyone needs a higher purpose beyond eat work and sleep - something to put your mind and soul's effort into like service or an organization. This strengthens your values and could mean more time with community family or kids rather than just what makes money.
