Her Story
About Neela
I have two jobs in my field. I've been teaching as an adjunct professor for 23 years, and I've been working in medical staff credentialing and coordination for about 8 years. I did my bachelor's right out of high school in physical education and recreation administration, then my master's in health education. I recently received my CPCS through NAMSS, which had only a 40% pass rate. I recently switched to University Hospitals after 7 years with my last company, and I've been there for about 6 months.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Neela
01What do you attribute your success to?
Setting a good example for my children and feeling fulfilled, intelligent, and competent. I'm very driven and motivated. After going through a personal journey 8 years ago needing to work more, I fell into a position and worked really hard to make higher income.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
People can take anything away from you, but what people cannot take away from you is your education. You could chase a man, money, whatever, but that education nobody will ever be able to take that away from you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's not about everything being virtual. You need to look people in the eye, communicate face-to-face, shake hands, show confidence, ask questions, be curious. It will take a referral, networking, commitment. Don't give up. Keep staying educated and current. Keep reading, not just online, but put a magazine or newspaper in your hand.
