Her Story
About Neha
I have been in the finance data governance industry for 8 years now as a Data Governance Manager. My typical day involves implementing enterprise-wide data classifications and lifecycle management frameworks across units. I work to protect sensitive personal and financial data of clients, such as at Standard Chartered Bank, to prevent cross-border transfers and ensure compliance so organizations avoid breaches and government penalties. I began my career in 2016 as a financial analyst after my bachelor's in finance and a 2015 internship at Grant Thornton. My path took me through oil and gas at ExxonMobil, consulting, healthcare data governance in India, and into banking data governance. With AI emerging, ensuring data credibility and security has become even more critical to me.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Knowledge is power. If you are knowledgeable about the industry that you are in, you can own it, and you can communicate that clearly to anybody that you're talking to, be it the stakeholders, be it your internal or external clients, then your knowledge will speak for yourself. You don't need anybody's validation or sitting there pleasing other people. Just learn, read, create as much as you can in the space that you're interested in. Enhance your knowledge, and if you are knowledgeable, then people are going to spot that and give you the opportunities.
