Ten minutes with Nichole
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute a lot of my success to the leaders I’ve had throughout my time here and my own personal experiences in similar positions — several bosses who saw potential in me long before I recognized it in myself. When I first joined the company, I started as a sewer and had no interest in taking on any more management roles. I had spent so much of my life supervising and managing people that I just wanted to stay under the radar and focus on my work.
But my supervisors had other plans for me. They consistently encouraged me, pushed me, and reminded me of the strengths they saw in me. They believed I was capable of more and didn’t let me settle for playing small. Their confidence in my abilities helped me step into leadership again, this time with a different mindset — one rooted in purpose, compassion, and growth.
Over time, I realized they were right. I did grow into a strong and effective supervisor, and I’m proud of the leader I’ve become. I’m also grateful for the friends and family who supported me along the way and encouraged me to pursue the path that aligned with who I wanted to be.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
It wasn’t just advice — it was the consistent feedback, encouragement, and teamwork mentality my supervisors showed me. They reminded me that we are stronger together, and their support helped me realize that I shouldn’t undervalue my contributions. Their belief in me made it clear that I deserved to be recognized and compensated for the impact I was already making.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell her to be 100% herself. Be authentic in everything you do. Treat people the way you want to be treated and stay focused on helping others whenever you can. Think before you act and take the time to plan your next steps with intention. These are the principles that have helped me succeed in this industry, and I believe they’re important for any young woman starting out in nonprofit work or stepping into a leadership role.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There is always opportunity for upward mobility in my current position. The biggest challenge I face is keeping up with the constant changes in technology.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Helping people is the value that guides everything I do. Love is central to who I am, and I truly believe that if there were more love in the world, many of the challenges we face would look very different. I believe in lifting each other up, supporting one another, and strengthening each other through compassion. In times like these, we all need as much kindness and understanding as we can get or give.
