Her Story
About Nicole
I started my career at Caterpillar about six or seven years ago as a production team member, where I assembled tractor axles. I was promoted into the quality department, where I inspected parts on assembly lines and helped people with their issues. Then I was promoted a second time to document quality processes, and that's where I think I found my niche. I was able to be creative and use more of my creativity rather than just doing the mundane tasks over and over again. I was really able to explore and do things my way. When Illinois Oil Marketing Equipment was looking for a process documentation specialist, I decided to join their company because they're employee-owned, which is a great benefit. Once again, I am left to be creative as I want to be. I just love that part of my job, being able to use my creativity and not really doing tasks that run the businesses, but doing the back end of how everything gets done. I coordinate with a lot of different departments, basically trying to chase down people for information, trying to pry out their knowledge and put it on paper. I make videos and animations on Blender to help people understand what goes on at our company. We do a lot of construction for gas stations and underground storage tanks, and a lot of people don't know what's under the ground and all the piping and storage tanks underground at a gas station. I've created an animation that displays that in real people terms. I try to simplify things so that everyone can understand them, because I feel like any job can be taught no matter who you are, if you have good instructions and a good trainer. I believe that anyone can do anything. I'm brand new to the real estate industry as well, and I'm a licensed real estate broker through Illinois.

Ten minutes with Nicole
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my children and my family. I had really good discipline from my parents, and it took me a while to invest in myself, so I've got to put that in there too. My family has been my foundation, and learning to invest in myself has been crucial to where I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is that not everyone will like you, and that's okay. Just be yourself and stay to yourself. Don't give too much information because then people can use that against you, but just be yourself and reach for the stars. I have so many pieces of advice I follow, but the biggest one is that I give my all in anything that I do. Whether it's something small or something huge, I make sure that my all is in everything that I do.
