Her Story

About Nicole

Nicole Hernandez is a Marketing Manager in the consulting industry, bringing over three years of experience in brand management, account strategy, and multi-channel marketing to her role. Currently at BTS, she leads global award strategy, oversees content reporting and analytics, and manages end-to-end podcast production, turning data into insights that shape broader marketing strategy. Earlier in her career, she gained experience at a publishing company during graduate school and spent three years at Renegade, a New York-based marketing agency, where she managed accounts for major clients including the Empire State Building and Empire State Realty Trust.

Nicole built her academic foundation at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where she completed a double major in marketing and operations management before going on to earn her MBA in business analytics through an accelerated one-year program. That analytical background has shaped her approach to marketing ever since, giving her a strong appreciation for how data and metrics inform effective brand strategy. Her professional path reflects a deliberate blend of creative storytelling and measurable results, skills she has applied across social media strategy, brand narrative development, and stakeholder management.

Throughout her career, Nicole has credited her growth to ambition and a willingness to advocate for herself, consistently seeking new challenges and opportunities to develop professionally. She places high value on authenticity and purpose in her work, believing that meaningful engagement comes from genuine passion for a project rather than simply going through the motions. As the job market grows more competitive, she encourages others, particularly young women entering the industry, to embrace individuality and bring their personal touch to their careers, standing out through creativity and authentic self-expression rather than following the crowd.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nicole

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to ambition and a continuous drive to grow. Since college, I have consistently pushed myself to become a better version of myself and to pursue the next opportunity in front of me. I've also learned the importance of advocating for myself, whether that means asking for a promotion, negotiating a salary increase, pursuing a title change, exploring a new team, or simply recognizing when it's time to move forward in my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to never be afraid to ask questions. Earlier in my career, I was shy and hesitant to speak up, often waiting to ask questions privately instead of in the moment. Over time, I realized that others in the room likely had the same question I did. Asking questions shows curiosity, engagement, and a genuine willingness to learn, and I truly believe there are no stupid questions.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

As AI continues to transform the workplace, I believe authenticity and individuality matter more than ever. My advice to women entering the industry is to bring their personality and personal touch into everything they do. No matter the field, whether marketing, accounting, consulting, or something else, I encourage women to let their unique qualities shine through in their work.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I see right now is how competitive and saturated the job market has become. With layoffs putting more qualified candidates into the pool, securing interviews is harder than ever. This makes creativity, personality, authenticity, and the willingness to think outside the box especially valuable. Standing apart from the crowd, rather than following the same approach as everyone else, can make a real difference.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Passion and purpose are central to how I approach my professional life. My heart has to be in the work I do, because if I don't believe in a project or feel connected to its purpose, I know I won't be as inspired or motivated. I value being honest with leadership about what genuinely interests me and pursuing work that truly resonates with who I am.
