Her Interview
Ten minutes with Nicole
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my upbringing, especially the example set by my mother. After my parents divorced when I was seven, she raised my brother and me as a single parent, demonstrating incredible resilience, determination, and selflessness. Watching her sacrifices instilled in me a strong work ethic and a deep sense of responsibility to make the most of every opportunity and to make her proud each day.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my late grandmother: “Never give up on yourself.” Those simple words have stayed with me throughout every stage of my personal and professional journey. They have reminded me to believe in my abilities, stay resilient through challenges, and keep moving forward with confidence, even when the path has been difficult.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
For young women entering the fields of human resources, talent management, and recruiting, my advice is to remember that you are connecting people with opportunities that can change lives. Lead with integrity, treat everyone with respect, and never lose sight of the human side of the work. While metrics and deadlines matter, building genuine relationships and earning trust will have the greatest impact on both your career and the people you serve.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide my work and personal life are integrity, service, and making a positive impact on others. I strive to encourage, empower, and motivate those around me, and I believe that even my mistakes have value when I can share the lessons learned to help someone else overcome a similar challenge. Building meaningful relationships and giving back to my community are also central to who I am, whether through my involvement with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. or singing in my church choir.
I’m also passionate about using storytelling to inspire others. I am currently completing my first book, Jumping In, which uses the childhood game of Double Dutch as a metaphor for overcoming fear, taking risks, and stepping into purpose. I hope it serves as a foundation for my work as a motivational speaker. In addition, I am writing a fiction novel that explores how families navigate grief and loss, continuing my commitment to encouraging others through both my professional work and creative pursuits.
