Her Story

About Nicole

I have been doing research, healthcare, and consulting for almost 10 years after starting in banking and IT management. In my professional role at a non-profit, I organize my team, review project pipelines, report to senior leadership, and ensure things move forward. As an entrepreneur running my consulting firm, I work with my assistant to manage client appointments, leads, demos, and trainings, often holding workshops after business hours. I am also deeply involved in women's empowerment as chair of the Leadership and Training Committee for Business and Professional Women, creating training modules, organizing workshops across the country, serving on the organizational board, and running a club in Cameroon to promote leadership and give women opportunities to express themselves.

Ten minutes with Nicole

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success is due to my authenticity. I have learned to be who I am and not shy away from my origin. I clearly say who I am and know what I can bring to the table. I am me and I use my skills to do my job and bring value rather than trying to be anyone else.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was from my manager when I was entering the workforce: Always think out of the box. Don't let anyone put you in a box. Let your imagination work and be creative. This has been a driver for everything I do, especially as a Black woman from Africa in IT in America.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to have courage. Courage is not the absence of fear but the capacity to keep moving when things are not going our way. Be patient, be organized, and have a mentor. It's always good to talk to someone who has done what you're trying to do because it's not a straight line. There will be times where everything goes sideways and you start questioning yourself, and you need someone by your side saying it's okay but keep moving forward.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In my entrepreneur field the biggest challenge is the growing number of service providers and coaches entering the industry, plus artificial intelligence where anyone can use ChatGPT to create leadership training. The opportunity lies in differentiating through the human side by being a partner and trainer who helps people understand who they are, how they communicate, and how they perceive others, allowing them to lead based on their values and strengths.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, professionalism, respect, and compassion are most important. As a leader, I focus on guidance and inspiring others to elevate themselves and excel in what they're good at. It's not just about results and performance but also creating human relationships by asking employees how they are doing and caring about their families.
