Her Interview
Ten minutes with Nicole
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to grit and tenacity. Much of my determination comes from becoming a mother at 17 and wanting to prove that circumstances do not determine a person's outcome. I wanted to show my children that where you start does not have to define where you end up. That mindset has continued to drive me throughout my career and has given me the persistence to keep moving forward, even when opportunities or circumstances have been challenging.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to stay positive, know your worth, and continue to elevate yourself without being afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Career growth does not always have to mean moving upward within the same organization. Sometimes a lateral move can provide valuable growth, new experiences, and opportunities to continue developing professionally. I encourage the next generation to recognize their value, remain open to new opportunities, and never be afraid to make a move that allows them to grow.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I see in my field is the limited representation of people who look like me, which can also make it difficult to find mentors with similar backgrounds and experiences. Another challenge is the limited availability of local opportunities in urban areas, which can require professionals to take on long commutes and, in some cases, accept pay cuts to advance their careers.
Throughout my career, I have also experienced the challenge of having to leave an organization in order to advance, rather than being promoted internally. Despite those challenges, I believe there are opportunities for professionals who are willing to continue developing themselves, build strong relationships, and remain open to different paths of career growth.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are honesty, integrity, self-awareness, and communication. I believe effective leadership begins with understanding yourself and being intentional about how you communicate and interact with others. These values guide how I lead people, manage processes, build relationships, and approach challenges.
