Her Story

About Nicole

I've been in the health insurance field for about 15 years, starting when I was a young mom looking for a job. I received a blessing at Blue Cross, and within a month, I knew this was what I was meant to do. Throughout my career, I've been involved in project management within the health insurance industry, implementing new tools and software, and collaborating with different departments to ensure fluidity and efficiency while making sure regulations aren't missed. I did venture out for about 3 years into the biomanufacturing and plasma collection industry, managing compliance and regulations, opening new centers, and training, but my heart called me back to health insurance. Today, I'm in a member-facing role where I have the opportunity to interact with our members, helping guide them through their benefits, answering questions, connecting them with doctors, making new appointments, helping establish specialty care, and triaging difficult situations. I process claims and help navigate challenging circumstances. I've been really blessed to have the opportunity to work so closely with the people who ultimately keep us in business. What I love most about my work is the impact I know I make. Health insurance can be a nightmare for people to navigate, especially when they're sick and scared financially and health-wise. Being able to bridge that gap and provide some comfort is truly rewarding.

Ten minutes with Nicole

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's a combination of the passion that I have for this work, along with the management support that I've had along the way. I've had some really good managers throughout the years who have really helped open doors and give opportunities. They saw my potential and helped me grow. I've been really fortunate in that regard, because having that kind of support can mean everything in your career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Hang in there. You're gonna have rough days, you know, try not to take it personally, try not to take it home, just hang in there. And if it speaks to your heart, be okay with being uncomfortable, because the light at the end of the tunnel is bright.
