Her Story

About Nicole

I view my position as really just pouring out on the girls I work with, because they come from such broken places. I'm able to just meet them where they are and build them up. In my first interaction with them, I shared a very vulnerable poem that I wrote, because I know so much about them from their files, and I think it's only right in the name of transparency and trust that I share something about myself. When I looked up after reading, I saw a lot of the girls were crying, and they embraced me. I opened up the floor so they could ask me any questions, nothing's off the table, and we spent maybe 15 minutes just answering questions and connecting with them. I come from American corporate where I'm used to structure and organizations and deadlines and protocols and procedures. I've helped write procedures and protocols and implement these things. At Nexus Healthcare, I was a program director and helped build programs from the ground up. Now at this facility that's only been here for about 3 years, I'm already seeing what's not in place and transferring those skills. My mind's already thinking of partnerships and things I've done in my career that will serve me well here. Throughout my entire career, I have tried my best to do right by people, work with integrity, be transparent, be authentic and humble. Those are some hard things to do when you're working with corporate and people who have a different mindset than you, but also when you're working with families and patients who are in such vulnerable positions that they may not be their normal selves.

Ten minutes with Nicole

01What do you attribute your success to?

I don't even remember who told me this, but I've held onto it for so long. It was early in my career: when you're good to people, God is good to you. I've repeated that to myself throughout my entire career, and I have tried my best to do right by people, work with integrity, be transparent, be authentic and humble. Those are some hard things to do when you're working with corporate and people who have a different mindset than you, but also sometimes when you're working with families and patients who are in such vulnerable positions that they may not be their quote-unquote normal selves. They may be in pain, so they're lashing out at you, and you were just the one that was there, and you were the one who caught it. So really just staying humble, and when you're good to people, that God is good to you, even if it's not in that very moment. My advice is to take care of the people that are around you, and God's gonna repay you more than double.
