Her Story
About Nicky
Nicky Sims is an award-winning producer, editor, and creative marketing specialist with over 20 years of experience shaping some of television’s most recognizable brands. She began her career in 2006 at NBCUniversal, where she spent more than a decade creating high-impact promotional campaigns for global franchises such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Real Housewives. Working across 15 international markets, she developed a reputation for delivering fast-paced, high-volume content that resonated with diverse audiences while strengthening brand identity on a global scale. Following her time at NBCUniversal, Nicky joined Netflix, where she played a key role during one of the platform’s most explosive growth periods. She spearheaded campaign work for Tiger King and contributed to popular titles like Love Is Blind and The Circle, crafting compelling trailers, teasers, and digital content in a high-speed, content-driven environment. Since 2022, she has served as Producer/Editor at Paramount Global, where she leads creative marketing efforts for Wheel of Fortune. In this role, she writes promotional content for on-air talent, directs on set, and oversees the full production lifecycle - from concept to final delivery - across broadcast, social, and large-scale placements including Times Square billboards. She also contributes to campaigns for legacy programs such as Jeopardy! and NCIS, balancing innovation with respect for longstanding audience expectations. Beyond her work in television, Nicky is a co-founder of the Inanis Collective, an all-female-identified artist group focused on art and immersive multimedia installations that blend vintage technology with modern storytelling. Passionate about community impact, she has helped organize art shows that support local causes, including women’s shelters in Los Angeles. Her creative philosophy centers on one core principle: capturing attention and earning every second of audience engagement. Whether producing national campaigns or building experiential art, she continues to push the boundaries of storytelling - bringing together creativity, technology, and human connection in everything she creates.

Ten minutes with Nicky
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a blend of strategic risk-taking and a "ground-up" work ethic. Early in my career, I deliberately sought out entry-level positions because I wanted to master the industry through hands-on experience; there is simply no substitute for understanding how every gear in the machine turns. Throughout my career, I’ve made decisions that didn’t always feel safe - whether that was taking financial risks, stepping into new roles, or pushing creative ideas that weren’t guaranteed to land. But those risks are what created momentum.
Beyond that foundation, I’ve found that persistence is often the deciding factor between a good idea and a realized project. I make it a point to pitch my ideas with unwavering confidence, ensuring they are always rooted in compelling storytelling and deep audience engagement. By prioritizing the "why" behind the content, I’ve been able to navigate the evolving media landscape effectively.
I’ve also been very intentional about the environments I put myself in. I surround myself with people I admire - people who challenge me and push me to grow. Being in those rooms accelerates everything.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was simple: speak up.
Early in my career, I saw myself more as an executor. My role was to deliver, not to have an opinion. And for a while, I stayed quiet, even when I had ideas.
But once I started speaking up, sharing creative perspectives and offering solutions, that’s when everything changed. I wasn’t just executing anymore, I was contributing. That shift is what allowed me to grow into a producer/editor role and build trust with both my teams and leadership.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Take risks, be bold, and don’t let imposter syndrome take hold early. It’s very easy (especially as a woman) to sit back and wait until you feel ready. But in this industry, being quiet can be mistaken for not having a point of view. Some of the most defining moments in my career came from speaking up in rooms where I wasn’t the most senior person - and sometimes the only woman. It can feel uncomfortable, but that’s often where respect is built.
Your voice matters earlier than you think it does. Use it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge (and opportunity) right now is the rapid advancement of AI. There’s no question it’s reshaping the industry. Some roles will evolve, and some may disappear, which creates uncertainty. At the same time, it’s an incredibly exciting creative shift. We’re entering a phase where storytelling, speed, and personalization can reach entirely new levels.
For me, the focus is staying adaptable, continuing to learn new tools, understanding how technology can enhance creativity, and being part of that evolution rather than reacting to it.
In addition - We are currently tasked with keeping legacy television properties feeling fresh and relevant without alienating the core audiences who value their traditional formats. It’s a delicate tightrope walk between innovation and heritage. Simultaneously, the sheer velocity of production presents a massive opportunity. We are now operating in an environment that demands a high volume of assets across social, digital, and out-of-home platforms almost instantly. To thrive here, I’ve focused on mastering rapid workflows, scalability, and complex versioning requirements. The opportunity lies in our ability to reach viewers everywhere they are, provided we can maintain quality while moving at the speed of the digital cycle.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
At the core of everything I do is a commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of women. I believe that we have a responsibility to support and uplift professional women, ensuring they have the visible platforms and community support necessary to thrive. In both my professional output and my personal interactions, I prioritize creativity and confidence-building. I strive to create environments and content, where diverse voices feel heard and emboldened to take their own risks. For me, success is hollow if it isn't used to build a more inclusive community that fosters growth for everyone involved.
I also value continuous learning. This industry evolves quickly, and staying curious has been essential to my growth.
In my personal life, I value my relationships the most, my family and my friends. They’ve been a huge part of my journey, not just as support systems, but as people I genuinely admire and learn from. Being surrounded by people who inspire you - both professionally and personally - makes all the difference.
