Her Story

About Nicole

Nicole Singleton started her professional journey in higher education in 2010 after completing her degree. She began in an entry-level position as a transfer coordinator in the registrar's office at her alma mater and quickly realized it was her calling due to her strengths in organization, attention to detail, problem solving, and communication. After earning a master's degree, she progressed through the ranks from assistant registrar and associate registrar to registrar, and currently holds the position of assistant provost and registrar. She enjoys the operations-based processes in higher education that allow her to apply her skills professionally. Nicole does not specialize in one particular area within the registrar's office, as it encompasses multiple functions. She attributes her success to maintaining a grounded spiritual life, being placed in the right room at the right time with the right people, being open to learning, and surrounding herself with individuals who possess talents and skills that complement her own.

Ten minutes with Nicole

01What do you attribute your success to?

A really grounded spiritual life and being placed in the right room at the right time with the right people. Also being open to learning and surrounding myself with people that have talents and skills that I don't necessarily have.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be very strategic when entering a profession. Take time to really get to know yourself, your goals, aspirations, skills, and where you see yourself. Be relentless in pursuit of your goals. Be open to things you may not think are for you. Take advantage of every professional development opportunity. Always look for ways to improve yourself professionally and be open to change.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The sky is the limit in higher education. You can work in multiple areas from admissions to student life to registrar to academic affairs. Options are there across many departments and even adjunct faculty.
