About Nicole
Nicole Smith is a UX designer who learned the field through the Springboard Bootcamp online. She previously studied at Alfred University, where she learned graphic design and developed soft skills. She gained practical experience through freelancing, quickly learning how to work with clients and maintain self-motivation. Nicole is inspired to work in UX by the opportunity to make everyday tasks easier and reduce frustration for users, such as in processes like signing up for health insurance or managing student loans. She attributes her career success to maintaining alignment between her personal values and professional positions, noting that misalignment prompts necessary changes. She supports local businesses as a shareholder at Abundance Co-op.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Alignment with my values. Once I know what my values are as a human being, making sure that whatever position I'm in professionally aligns with who I am as a person. If Nicole as a person is not aligned with Nicole as a professional, then I know I need to make a change. That has never steered me wrong.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't worry about the titles like senior designer or junior designer. Be where your feet are. If you're always thinking about being below someone else, you feel behind and never develop confidence. It's just a title, and you could graduate to a higher title but not enjoy your life or job anymore and the passion's gone.
