Her Story
About Nicole
I went to James Madison University and graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management in 2010 with a minor in Spanish. My education went right into my career. I’ve been planning events of varying caliber for 15 years. From nonprofit galas in various Baltimore museums, to picturesque weddings, to intimate gatherings for leadership, I’ve planned and executed countless events over the years.

Ten minutes with Nicole
01What do you attribute your success to?
The connections I've made along the way. When I first started in the industry, I networked two to three times a week meeting people in Baltimore City, and those connections have helped me grow drastically. In Baltimore, it is always, “who you know.”
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Before making any decisions or getting upset about anything, sleep on it. This way, you are not making any drastic decisions in the moment.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't burn out too fast. The events industry tends to involve a lot of hours and putting your personal life on hold. Try to maintain work-life balance even when younger to build a good foundation for life as well as career. Put your foot down and stick up for yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The economy is a challenge because most clients are corporate and budgets depend on that. For social events, if everything is too expensive people throw parties at home instead.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Loyalty is a large value in my professional and personal life, especially maintaining relationships with former colleagues, vendors, companies, and clients across jobs. I have clients that follow me from job to job, which is the best loyalty you can get. And I’d say communication. The more you communicate with your team and your clients, the easier everyone’s jobs can be. When people have perspective of a full situation, they tend to be more understanding and motivated to make rational decisions together.
