Nicole Leandra Morris
Nicole Leandra Morris is a seasoned marketing and design professional who has dedicated over a decade to helping startups and entrepreneurs define and communicate their value. A dual-degree graduate from James Madison University in fine art and business marketing, Nicole discovered early in her career the powerful synergy between creative design and strategic business thinking. She began her independent work in 2010, supporting small and medium-sized companies with projects ranging from logos, websites, and photography to murals, effectively bridging the gap between artistry and commercial objectives.
In 2012, Nicole moved to San Diego, where she immersed herself in the startup ecosystem, joining The Startup Garage to design pitch decks and develop business plans for early-stage companies. Her involvement quickly expanded beyond client work; she contributed to the growth of Startup San Diego and San Diego Startup Week, doubling event attendance two years in a row, formalizing the nonprofit organization, and serving on its board. Collaborating with local innovators and organizations like the San Diego Venture Group, Nicole played a pivotal role in strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial community and supporting founders through branding, fundraising, and marketing initiatives.
After relocating to Virginia Beach to be near family, Nicole relaunched her company, Build Creatively, Inc., while expanding into AI-driven solutions to empower entrepreneurs. Through her new DIY platform, she helps founders create pitch decks, websites, and branding materials on their own, removing barriers to clear communication and market impact. Outside of her professional life, Nicole is a devoted parent and enjoys outdoor activities, golf, and spending quality time with her family. Her work reflects a philosophy of clarity, simplicity, and creativity—helping businesses articulate their vision and scale with confidence.

What do you attribute your success to?
I credit much of my success to my mother, whose determination and work ethic as a single mom built the foundation for her career. My family has been an incredible support, but what truly drives me is connecting with entrepreneurs. I get energized by their ideas, passion, and dedication—it’s a constant source of motivation that keeps me inspired and engaged in my work.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to listen and learn from every situation, identify where you can add value, and take action. Don’t wait for permission—step in, solve problems, and improve processes. When you take initiative and make an impact, recognition and opportunities will follow.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is reshaping our field, creating both challenges and opportunities. It levels the playing field, allowing smaller players to move quickly and maintain an authentic voice, while larger companies often get bogged down in bureaucracy. My product helps individuals and small businesses refine their voice and leverage AI to stand out and compete effectively.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values I hold most strongly in my work and personal life are innovation, quality, and clarity. I value new ideas and creative approaches, prioritize excellence in everything I do, and focus on simplifying complex concepts into clear, concise messages. I follow a “less-is-more” approach—doing only what’s necessary to communicate effectively, which I like to call being an “undesigner designer.”
