I realized my journey was bigger than just me. My story reflected others who felt behind or unsure if it was too late, and sharing it helped them feel less alone.

Her Story

About Nieves

Nieves Aragon is an Engagement Fellow with Young Invincibles, where she connects young adults across Colorado to advocacy opportunities and policy education. After taking a 10-year break from college, she returned through a COSI grant and discovered a passion for advocacy that would reshape her career path. Through her involvement in multiple cohorts with Young Invincibles, she quickly stood out for her work with emerging advocates and was invited to join the organization as a fellow. Today, she empowers young adults to find their voice, build confidence, and engage in issues that matter to them helping create meaningful change one step at a time. With a background in medical technology and application support, Nieves brings a unique blend of technical expertise, problem-solving, and community-centered leadership to her work. She is especially passionate about advocacy in K-12 education, higher education, and healthcare, believing that early education and empowerment are key to overcoming broader economic challenges. In addition to her professional role, she serves as a PTO Vice President, working closely with families and educators to strengthen student and community support systems. Her advocacy extends into real-world impact, including her work with organizations like Hunger Free Colorado and her involvement in legislation to ensure children have access to free meals in schools. She is also engaged in advocacy around SNAP waiver restrictions, which affect many families facing food insecurity.  At the heart of Nieves’s work is her role as a mother and community advocate. She is deeply committed to teaching the next generation that their voices matter and that they have the power to create change. Whether she is mentoring young adults, supporting families, or championing policies that address food insecurity, she leads with purpose, compassion, and a belief in collective progress. Her work reflects a broader mission: to build stronger, more informed communities where every individual feels empowered to speak up and make a difference.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nieves

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for helping others thrive. I measure success not by titles or milestones, but by the confidence I see grow in others and the smiles that come from feeling heard, supported, and empowered. Being able to play a role in someone’s journey especially when they begin to recognize their own voice and potential is what truly drives me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to not let the unknown hold you back. Fear of what you don’t know can be one of the biggest barriers, but growth comes from taking that first step forward. Keep pushing yourself, stay resilient, and trust that you will figure things out along the way. Overcoming fear is often the biggest hurdle, and once you do, so many opportunities open up.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I see is fear especially among young people paired with broader economic issues like underfunded schools and food insecurity. These barriers can limit confidence and opportunity. However, this also presents a powerful opportunity. By focusing on K-12 students and teaching them confidence, resilience, and practical advocacy skills, we can help equip them to overcome these challenges and create meaningful change in their own lives and communities.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most are community, empowerment, and a genuine passion for serving others. I believe strongly in helping young people build confidence and develop the grit they need to navigate life’s challenges. Everything I do is rooted in the belief that when we uplift and support one another, we create stronger, more connected communities.
