About Niki
Niki Fidopiastis has dedicated more than 30 years to advancing the fields of microbiology, sterility assurance, and medical device sterilization. After earning her degree, Niki initially planned to pursue a career in food microbiology; however, her path quickly shifted when she joined a medical device laboratory in Southern California as a technician. This opportunity sparked a passion for the medical device industry and led her to build a distinguished career focused on microbiological testing, sterilization processes, and quality assurance.
Niki spent seven years at NAMSA, formerly known as North American Science Associates, where she gained extensive experience in laboratory testing before transitioning to Sterigenics to expand her expertise in sterilization processing. Over the course of her career, she has held leadership roles supporting medical device, pharmaceutical, and biologics organizations, developing specialized knowledge in sterilization validation, environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and sterility assurance. She currently serves as Director, Microbiology-Sterilization at Medtronic, where she leads sterilization processing and laboratory testing initiatives while building and mentoring high-performing technical teams.
Throughout her career, Niki has been recognized for her commitment to excellence, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. She believes success comes from staying curious, embracing continuous learning, and valuing expertise over titles or compensation, as knowledge and experience are lasting investments that no one can take away. A passionate mentor and industry contributor, Niki continues to support the growth of future leaders in sterility assurance while advancing practices that help improve the safety and quality of healthcare products worldwide.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my curiosity, my willingness to continuously learn, and the support of mentors and colleagues who have generously shared their knowledge and guidance throughout my career. I have been fortunate and truly grateful for the opportunities I have received, and I believe those experiences, along with the encouragement and wisdom of others, have played an important role in shaping my professional growth and achievements.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to remain open to learning and stay curious about the work they are pursuing. Titles and compensation may change over time, but the knowledge, skills, and experiences you gain throughout your career are what truly matter. Continue investing in yourself, seek opportunities to grow, and remember that the expertise you develop is something no one can take away from you.
