Her Interview
Ten minutes with Niki
01What do you attribute your success to?
I've always had, kind of just the way I grew up, my parents always instilled in me just to not give up. Even with financial hardships and things not, you know, always had to work really hard for everything that they had. I never gave up, I just kept moving along. Like Finding Nemo, I just keep swimming. I just kept making goals for myself, and I just don't stop.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've gotten is probably from Derek, my previous administrator and manager. He's always said you're worth more than you think you are, and don't sell yourself short. Everybody's on their own journey. You have to respect where you've been and where you are.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Definitely a big part of it is just finding the right people to surround yourself with. Having the right support system, networking and having a great group of people that are in this field have been a wonderful resource for me. It's the people that you know and that you can trust and build those relationships with that can kind of mentor you and help you along your path.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges lately is there's been a kind of a boom of new agencies across the board in the state. A lot of people just starting their own home care agencies, their own home health agencies. It does make it quite saturated and competitive when you're trying to market. It's tricky when you're trying to market because there's so many people fighting for the same thing, fighting for people's trust.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Really it's just about integrity. Family is very important to me. I spend a lot of time educating people and making sure they have all the information they need. I like to make sure I take the time and I don't like to rush things. Being transparent about the services available to them, what things cost, what insurances cover and don't cover. Conduct myself with honesty and integrity. I want to be a good role model for my children.
