Her Interview
Ten minutes with Nikki
01What do you attribute your success to?
I was blessed to come into the time I came into this industry. I went to an HBCU which helped me find out who I was. I had the right managers and mentors who saw the drive in me and coached me through opportunities. I'm very religious, without nothing I'm nothing without God, so I've just been blessed to have the opportunity.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Supportive managers helped her grow and develop, including coaching her through interview processes. She discussed her approach to mentoring younger team members and offering them opportunities for career development and cross-training.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Get into groups, it's not what you know it's who you know. Talk to people, go to events, build relationships. Find a mentor and learn everything you can. Know your worth. Especially in a male-dominated industry like nuclear where it's 50 men to one lady, get comfortable in your own skin.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Primarily male dominated industry where diversity is limited. As a Black woman sometimes I look around and there's not a lot of people who look like me.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Communication, trust and respect. Family first. Family is 100% important to me. I'm not a micromanager, I trust that you can do your job.
