Nilda Luhring-González
Nilda Luhring-González is a dedicated environmental scientist and sustainability development professional with extensive experience in sustainable and regenerative tourism, socioeconomic development, watershed health, social vulnerability. Currently serving in the Economic Development and Tourism Department for the Municipality of San Juan, she previously held key roles with the U.S. Forest Service and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, where she led initiatives in volunteering and partnership coordinaror and in sustainable tourism and socio-economic development. Nilda combines her practical experience with strong academic credentials, holding a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and a Master’s degree in Environmental Health from the University of Puerto Rico. Throughout her career, Nilda has been committed to advancing environmental research using socio-ecological approach often tackling challenging projects for vulnerable communities. She has published multiple articles in scientific journals and magazines, including work on watershed health and ecotourism resources in Puerto Rico. Her professional focus is on creating innovative solutions that support local communities, sustainable practices, and economic research, demonstrating both resilience and vision in her field. Beyond her professional achievements, Nilda is passionate about inspiring the next generation of Latina professionals, challenging stereotypes, and showing that women can excel in any industry. She balances her career with family life, cherishing outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming with her two young children.
