Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nilisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute our success directly to our parents. My mother sacrificed a lot and invested in our education despite coming from a patriarchal society, and my father instilled the importance of education and supported us financially through top-tier education including my MBA without loans.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My father always advised about the importance of sports, specifically team sports in life. It instills confidence, collaboration, competition with self, recovery from challenges, and not being afraid of failing. 80% of Fortune 500 women CEOs have background in sports.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take on every challenge with broad shoulders and believe you can do anything. In male-dominated fields like tech, lean on other women and have a network of fellow women because only they can truly understand certain challenges like being a working mother.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the disruptive technology of AI - identifying ROI, monetization, ramping up staff rapidly as models change daily. The biggest opportunity is also AI because it accelerates delivery pace dramatically and empowers non-engineers to build and execute ideas quickly.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

People and relationships are huge - leaning on close friends and connecting with colleagues at a human level. Balance is a mantra - having time for breakfast, work, daughter, workout, husband, and family calls. Experiences matter - traveling, foods, and embracing new mom life.
