About Nimra
Nimra Farooqui serves as a sous chef at Shore Lodge Property in McCall, Idaho, where she is in her ninth year working in the hospitality industry. She specializes in baking and pastry, with particular focus on plated desserts, chocolate making, and flavor pairing, areas in which she has earned certifications. Farooqui earned a Bachelor's of Arts in International Culinary Arts in 2023 from a university affiliated with Queen Margaret University Edinburgh and a Master's of Arts in Teaching Baking and Pastry from Johnson and Wales in May 2026. She attributes her success to her parents, especially her mother, and values consistency along with respecting time in both her professional and personal life. Farooqui notes that the culinary field remains male-dominated, presenting challenges for women, yet offers endless opportunities for learning about tastes, flavors, and cuisines from around the world.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My parents, especially my mom. They are my backbones.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Teaching is comfortable and you learn from students too. Learning and teaching never stops; you are learning every day even if you're teaching.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
See what you are more interested in. Take a while, pause for yourself, and see what's coming up for you. Career is not something you can be forcefully gotten into; it's dependent on your personality and what you want to pursue.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: male dominated industry where some tasks are seen as only for men and women are perceived as weak. Opportunities: endless learning about tastes, flavors, different cuisines from around the world; improvising cuisines means learning every day.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Consistency and respecting time. Consistency comes with time, and if you value the time, you will be successful. Be on time, value your time.
